Guide

How to revive a dead Discord server

A quiet server usually still has people in it. They just stopped having a reason to post. Here's how to give them one, and how to tell whether it's working.

1. Find out where it went cold

Before posting anything, look at the numbers. Which channels have gone quiet, which questions never got an answer, how many people joined and never said a word, and when your members are actually online.

  • Dead channels: archive or merge them, so the live ones feel busier.
  • Unanswered questions: one ignored question teaches a newcomer not to ask again.
  • Silent joins: people who joined and never posted need a reason to speak, not another rules ping.
  • Busiest hour: post when people are online, not when it suits you.

2. Give people something easy to answer

Big open questions get silence. Small ones get replies: a this-or-that, a quick trivia round, a number to guess. Low effort to join, and something to argue about afterwards.

3. Answer and greet, every time

Most servers die from small silences: a question nobody answered, a hello nobody returned. Make sure every lonely question and every newcomer gets a reply, even a short one.

4. Measure, then keep what worked

Compare this week with last week. Which posts got a real human reply within a day? Do more of those and drop the rest. Without this step, you're guessing.

What Firekeepr does for each step

Firekeepr is a Discord bot built around exactly this loop. A private weekly audit shows your mods the cold spots. Games and mod-approved posts give people something to answer. It replies to lonely questions and greets newcomers when mods turn that on. Next week's audit compares against the last one, so you can see what brought people back.

The commands

f.audit

Run an audit now and post it in the mod channel.

f.trivia

A trivia question with answer buttons. Answers are revealed after 20 minutes.

f.tot

This or that: pick a side with the buttons, then defend it in chat.

f.serverstats

Server activity. Messages, who posted, joins and leaves, voice time, top channels and a heatmap of when people talk.

f.speak

When I talk unprompted. Answering posts nobody picked up, greeting newcomers, conversation starters, reactions; anyone can look, mods change it.

Questions

Should I delete inactive members?

Not necessarily. Firekeepr only counts members who have posted, so inactive accounts don't drag your numbers down. Focus on the people who are still around.

Will a bot make my server feel fake?

Not if it stays a bot. Firekeepr always shows as a bot, never pretends to be a member, and only speaks unprompted in moments your mods choose.

How long does it take?

Give it two to four weeks. The weekly audit sets a baseline on its first run and shows the change from there.
